Steps for hiring hourly staff employees (NSNR)

What is a NSNR? NSNR stands for Non-Student, Non-Regular Staff (not benefits eligible) – employees who do not meet the definition of regular staff employees. Employment neither exceeds 20 hours per week for a period of at least four and one-half months nor requires student status. UPPS 04.04.03 Section 02.03.

We were recently informed by Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) that in order to comply with TRS rules, we need to update our business practices related to the number of hours per week a Non-Student, Non-Regular (NSNR) employee is permitted to work. Effective Sep. 1, 2021, we will be capping the number of work hours at 19.75 per week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact HR Benefits, Additional information about NSNR working limits can be found on the HR Benefits site.
